At the end of a joyful and moving ceremony, Jane Fonda left Lyon with her Lumière Award 2018, after an impressive standing ovation by the audience of 5,000 gathered in her honor at the Halle Tony Garnier.

Jane Fonda appeared one last time at the Sunday closing ceremony of the Lumière festival. The American actress and activist, crowned with the Lumière Award the previous Friday, joined Thierry Frémaux on stage at the Halle Tony Garnier for a brief speech full of emotion. "This festival was an unforgettable experience for me. I feel safe in Lyon, it's such a calm city and the Lyonnais are so respectful of others... It's surprising, I'm not used to it." The laureate of the 2018 Lumière Award then received the "Lion of Lyon" from David Kimelfeld, President of the Metropolis, as well as another gift from Georges Képénékian, Mayor of Lyon. "Thank you, Lyonnais! And thank you, Monsieur Frémaux. Lyon, I'll be back!"

In another highlight of the closing ceremony, all 800 volunteers of the festival were recognized on stage, along with the team of the Institut Lumière. And to wrap it all up, John Ford's masterpiece, The Grapes of Wrath, was shown on the giant screen of the Halle, a movie chosen by Jane to honor her illustrious father, the great Hollywood actor, Henry Fonda.
