A prestigious guest of the festival, Meher Tatna, President of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) - the organization that notably conducts the Golden Globes - spoke on Sunday, October 14th at the Hangar du Premier-Film, alongside Thierry Frémaux.
The Indian journalist took advantage of the screening of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger's The Red Shoes in a restored print, funded by the HFPA, to deliver a speech - entirely in French - that created surprise and emotion among the audience.

After recalling the philanthropic vocation of the HFPA and praising the work on film heritage undertaken by the Institut, Meher Tatna announced that her organization would partner with the Institut Lumière "to participate in a second phase of film restoration of the films of the Lumière Brothers."
Overjoyed by this public proclamation, Thierry Frémaux stressed that the CNC would play an important role in this project. From the other side of the Atlantic, Martin Scorsese made a video tribute to HFPA, an association that collaborates with The Film Foundation - which he created - focusing on film restoration, Filmmaker Robin Campillo (BPM Beats per Minute) then introduced the restored print of The Red Shoes, adding, “If there is any film that deserves to be restored, it is really this one, because its colors are incredible.”
The announcement holds within it the promise of classic cinema that can be preserved and continue to thrive.
